Nehro Belmont Stakes Odds
(The Spread) – After sitting out of the Preakness, 2011 Belmont Stakes contender Nehro is ready to challenge the other favorites this weekend.
Odds: Nehro has been listed with the favorites from the start. When oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog released the opening odds for the Belmont Stakes, he was listed at 4/1. Now he’s listed at 5/1, but he’s still considered one of the favorites along with Animal Kingdom (5/2), Shackleford (5/1) and Master of Hounds (6/1).
Race History: Nehro has put together three second-place finishes in a row. He placed second at the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on March 26, second at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on April 16 and second at the 2011 Kentucky Derby on May 7. He sat out of the Preakness so that he could train for the Belmont, so he should be well rested.
Outlook: Along with Master of Hounds, Nehro is the freshest favorite of the Belmont bunch. Shackleford obviously has the speed to get out front, but will he tire down the stretch like he did at the Kentucky Derby? Nehro showed strength in finishing second at Churchill Downs and I think he has what it takes to not only finish in the money, but also emerge victorious from Belmont Park on Saturday.
