Master of Hounds Belmont Odds
(The Spread) – As we continue our look at the 2011 Belmont Stakes, we preview mid-range favorite Master of Hounds.
Odds: When oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog released the opening odds for the 2011 Belmont Stakes, Master of Hounds had 9/1 odds. But now he’s 6/1, putting him in the same company as other mid-range favorites Nehro (5/1) and Shackleford (5/1).
Race History: In his last outing, Master of Hounds finished fifth in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. He also finished second at the Grade 2 UAE Derby on March 26, sixth at the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on November 6 of last year, and third in his debut at the Grade 1 Racing Post Trophy.
Outlook: Like every contender in the Belmont, stamina will be the deciding factor in whether or not Master of Hounds contends. He certainly has the pedigree for the distance and trainer Aidan P. O’Brien is the right man for the job in terms of training contenders for the mile and a half. But Master of Hounds didn’t have a complete effort at the Kentucky Derby and skipped the Preakness, so it’ll be interesting to see whether or not he can hang with the likes of Animal Kingdom, Shackleford and Nehro.
