2018 Belmont Stakes Payouts & Results
On Saturday Justify became the 13th Triple Crown winner in U.S. Thoroughbred racing history by winning wire-to-wire at the 2018 Belmont Stakes.
Justify had a clean start while coming out of the No. 1 post position, cruised through the first half of the Belmont Stakes and was barely challenged in winning this year's Triple Crown. The incredible thoroughbred remained undefeated in his career with the victory and is now six-for-six.
At 4/5 odds, a $2 wager on Justify to win netted a bettor just $3.60. A winning $2 wager on Justify to place was $3.50 while a winning ticket for show produced $2.80.
Meanwhile, Gronkowski, who is part owned by New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski finished an improbable second. He was dead last in the first half of the race but closed late, cashing $13.80 on a $2 wager on place and $7.00 on a $2 wager for show. He went off at 24/1 and was one of the larger long-shots in the field.
Finally, Hofburg, who was supposed to be Justify's biggest challenger to the Triple Crown, finished third at 5/1 odds. A $2 wager on show would have netted bettors $3.70 today.
As far as the exotics are considered, a winning wager on 1-6 for a $2 exacta netted $89.00. A $1.00 trifecta of 1-6-4 won $229.74 and a winning $1.00 superfecta of 1-6-4-8 cashed $1,051.50.
Justify became the second undefeated horse to win the Triple Crown, joining Seattle Slew in 1977. Bob Baffert, Justify's trainer, also joined "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons as the only trainers to win the Triple Crown twice. Fitzsimmons won in 1930 with Gallant Fox and in 1935 with Omaha. Baffert won in 2015 with American Pharoah as well.
