USA World Cup Odds
While still a bit of a long shot to win, the United States is expecting to be the surprise team heading into the 2010 World Cup.
United States World Cup History:
Number of Previous World Cup Appearances: 8
Last Appearance: 2006
Best Finish: Third Place (1930)
All-Time World Cup Record: 6-11-3
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com, USA has been given 80/1 odds to win the World Cup. Spain is the favorite coming in with odds of 4/1.
2010 World Cup Qualifying:
The United State qualified through the CONCACAF Fourth Round group, where it finished first out of six teams with 20 points. USA went 6-2-2 in the group, scoring 19 goals and allowing 12. The two losses in group play came against Mexico and Costa Rica.
The United States seemed like it was building steam on the national soccer stage when it reached the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, but then it went winless in 2006. This time around, the U.S. has shown some promise, beating teams like Spain, but it also shows how far it still has to come with losses to Honduras and the Czech Republic. The U.S. will play in Group C with England, Algeria, and Slovenia. With England losing its captain to injury, the door is open for the U.S. to possibly win the group and get a nice draw in the tournament, but the team is still far from contending for the title and we would suggest putting your money on another team.
