Paynter Belmont Odds & Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – After winning two of his last four races 2012 Belmont Stakes contender Paynter will challenge the field this Saturday at Belmont Park.
Oddsmakers currently list Paynter with 8/1 odds to win the 2012 Belmont Stakes while I’ll Have Another is the current favorite at 6/5. Dullahan is 4/1, Union Rags is 5/1 and Street Life is 12/1. Like most of the contenders in this week’s race, Paynter did not run in the Kentucky Derby or Preakness Stakes.
Paynter is coming off a victory at an Allowance on May 19 and also placed second at the Grade III Derby Trial on April 28. He finished fourth at the Grade I Santa Anita Derby on April 7 and collected a win in his first ever race when he was victorious at a Maiden Special Weight on February 18.
Diamond A Racing Corp. is Paynter’s breeder while Bob Baffert is his trainer, which is one of the reasons why his odds are fairly decent (at least when compared to the horses not named I’ll Have Another, Dullahan and Union Rags). Paynter enters Saturday’s race with a career record of 4-2-1-0 and has a Best Beyer of 106.
This will be the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, with the post time scheduled for 6:35PM ET. I’ll Have Another will attempt to become the 12th Triple Crown winner after he was the 33rd horse to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
UPDATE: I'll Have Another has been scratched from Saturday's race.
