Union Rags Belmont Odds
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – Union Rags now figures to be one of the favorites to win this Saturday's Belmont Stakes with I'll Have Another being scratched.
With Triple Crown contender I'll Have Another being scratched from Saturday's race, oddsmakers have now made Dullahan a 5/2 favorite while Union Rags is right behind him at 3/1. Paynter is 5/1, Street Life is 8/1 and both My Adonis and Optimizer are 15/1, respectively.
Union Rags won three straight outings to start his career, capturing victory at a Maiden Special Weight on July 12 of last year, a win at the Grade II Saratoga Special on August 15, as well as at the Grade I Champagne on October 8. He placed second at the Grade I Breeders’ Up Juvenile on November 5 before winning his fourth career race at the Grade II Fountain of Youth on February 26. After placing third at the Grade I Florida Derby on March 31 he finished a disappointing seventh at the Kentucky Derby.
Phyllis M. Wyeth is Union Rags’ breeder while Michael R. Matz is his trainer. He enters with a career record of 7-4-1-1 and has a Best Beyer of 95. He was one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby when the odds were first released and seeing as how he’s well rested, he could definitely upset I’ll Have Another this Saturday if he can finish strong.
This will be the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, with the post time scheduled for 6:35PM ET.
