Ruler On Ice Belmont Stakes Odds
(The Spread) – As we continue our look at the 2011 Belmont Stakes, today we take a look at another long shot in Ruler On Ice.
Odds: When oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog released the opening odds for the 2011 Belmont Stakes, Ruler On Ice wasn’t listed. But now he’s 40/1 to win, which puts him in the same company as fellow long shots Isn’t He Perfect (50/1) and Monzon (30/1).
Race History: Ruler On Ice hasn’t faced much top competition but his race history is pretty impressive. He finished fifth in his debut at a MSW last September, but then won a MSW in his next start on October 4. He kicked off his 2011 season by placing second at an allowance on February 4 before taking third at the Grade 3 Sunland Derby on March 27. In his last outing, he finished second at the Federico Tesio on May 7.
Outlook: Well, if his recent race history is any indication Ruler On Ice might be a potential sleeper. He’s finished in the money in all four of his last four starts and his third-place finish at the Sunland Derby gives him hope to contend this Saturday at Belmont Park. The problem is that he hasn’t faced much top competition and could be blown away come this weekend. His odds are right, but he’s also a more attractive bet than fellow long shots Isn’t He Perfect and Monzon. Take it for what it’s worth, but this is the dark horse worth a long shot look.
