Optimizer Belmont Odds & Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – After failing to finish in the money at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, Optimizer will attempt to crack the top 3 on Saturday at the Belmont.
Oddsmakers have installed Optimizer as a 22/1 long shot to win this weekend while 2012 Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another is the current favorite at 11/10. Dullahan is 15/4, Union Rags is 21/4 and Paynter is 9/1. Street Life is considered a mid-range long shot at 14/1.
Optimizer has six races under his belt this year but he hasn’t been very impressive in any of them outside of finishing second at the Grade II Rebel on March 17. He finished sixth at the Preakness Stakes and 11th at the Kentucky Derby, while also placing a disappointing ninth at the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 14.
Optimizer is owned by Bluegrass Hall LLC and is trained by D. Wayne Lukas. He enters Saturday’s Belmont Stakes with a career record of 11-1-2-1 and has a Best Beyer of 91. His lone victory came in the very first race of his career, as he won a Maiden Special Weight on August 6 of last year.
This will be the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, with the post time scheduled for 6:35PM ET. I’ll Have Another will attempt to become the 12th Triple Crown winner after he was the 33rd horse to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
