World Cup Group D Odds
Though the favorites to win Group D of the 2010 World Cup, Germany isn’t as highly favored as other group front runners.
The 2010 World Cup takes place from June 11 through July 11 in South Africa. In each group, four teams will compete in a round robin format where each team plays each other once. The team with the best record will be considered the group winner.
Germany has been given 17/20 odds win Group D according to the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other odds to win are Serbia (11/4), Ghana (9/2), and Australia (7/1).
Germany has won three World Cups in history and finished runner-up in four others. Germany took third in 2006 and second in 2002 and it has failed to reach the field of 16 since 1950. Germany was 8-0-2 during qualifying with a goal differential of +21. It opens the tournament with Australia.
Serbia last reached the round of 16 in 1998 and hasn’t won a World Cup game since then. The best Serbia finished was fourth in 1962. Serbia went 7-2-1 during qualifying with a goal differential of +14. Serbia opens play with Ghana.
Ghana has played in one World Cup, which came in 2006 where it reached the round of 16 with a 2-2-0 record. Ghana is 7-3 in its last games.
Australia has played in only two World Cups, reaching the round of 16 once, in 2006. Australia has one win in seven World Cup games.
