2015 Belmont Stakes Predictions
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) - With post time set for 6:50PM ET, here are our picks for the 2015 Belmont Stakes.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, American Pharoah is 4/5 to win the Belmont Stakes while Frosted is 5/1 and Materaility is 7/1. Mubtaahij, Keen Ice and Madefromlucky are all 16/1, respectively, while Tale of Verve is 20/1 and Frammento has the longest odds at 33/1.
WIN: Materiality (7/1)
Materiality has been lightly ran but in four starts he has three victories, which includes a win in the Florida Derby. His lone loss came in the Kentucky Derby when he finished sixth, but he's well rested to challenge in the Belmont today. Todd Pletcher trained Palace Malice to victory in the Belmont Stakes in 2013 and John Velazquez is a two-time Belmont winner. At 7/1, Materiality offers some of the best value in this year's field.
PLACE: American Pharoah (4/5)
History isn't on American Pharoah's side, even if his odds to win are. While the Triple Crown contender looks no worse for wear, Victor Espinoza has struggled with the distance in the Belmont despite having tremendous success in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Ultimately we think the distance will get to American Pharoah, but it's hard to leave the Triple Crown contender out of the money.
SHOW: Madefromlucky (16/1)
In his last race, Madefromlucky won the Grade 2 Peter Pan at Belmont Park, so he's comfortable on the track. He also finished fourth in the Arkansas Derby and second behind American Pharoah in the Grade 2 Rebel. His speed is suitable for the distance but I'm not willing to call the upset seeing as how he's already lost twice to American Pharoah.
