2015 Belmont Stakes Payouts
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) - American Pharoah became the first contender to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978 by winning the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, American Pharoah was a 10/13 favorite roughly an hour before post time. Frosted, meanwhile, was 5/1, Materiality was 15/2 and both Keen Ice and Mubtaahij were 16/1, respectively.
American Pharoah became the fifth horse since 1948 to win the Triple Crown by leading the Belmont Stakes wire-to-wire. According to ESPN Stats & Info, American Pharoah joins Affirmed (1978), Seattle Slew (1977), Secretariat (1973) and Citation (1948) to all led wire-to-wire.
Frosted, who was viewed as American Pharoah's biggest challenger at least in terms of the odds, finished second while Keen Ice placed third to round out the money spots.
In the end though, no contender was a match for American Pharoah. Bob Baffert, his trainer, also won his first Triple Crown on what was his fourth attempt.
