Orb Belmont Stakes Preview & Odds
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – After winning the first leg of the triple crown last month, Orb remains favored to win the 2013 Belmont Stakes.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Orb has 7/2 odds to win this Saturday’s race, which are slightly down from earlier in the week when he was 3/1. The contender with the next best odds is Revolutionary at 5/1, although 2013 Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow has comporable odds at 6/1.
Continuing with this year’s Belmont Stakes odds, Unlimited Budget is now 8/1 while Freedom Child and Golden Soul are 12/1, respectively. Overanalyze, meanwhile, is 15/1, while Will Take Charge is 20/1 and Vyjack are 25/1. The other long shots include Frac Daddy and Incognito, who are 30/1, respectively, and Giant Finish and Midnight Taboo, who are 40/1, respectively.
Orb has been rock-solid throughout his career, especially in graded stakes races. His first graded stakes start came on February 23 of this year when he won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth. He also won the Grade 1 Florida Derby on March 30 and backed that up with a victory at the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby on May 4. But he lost his bid for the triple crown when he finished fourth in the Preakness Stakes on May 18.
In his non-graded stakes performances, he finished third, fourth, fourth and first, respectively, in four straight Maiden Special Weights that spanned from August 18 of last year through November of 2012. He also won an Allowance on January 26 of this year.
Orb drew the No. 5 gate when post positions were drawn on Wednesday. Frac Daddy will start on the rail while Freedom Child drew the No. 2 gate and Overanalyze drew the No. 3 post. Giant Finish will start fourth.
The 2013 Belmont Stakes will take place from Belmont Park on Saturday, June 8.
