Updated Belmont Stakes Odds
(The Spread) – With the 2011 Belmont drawing closer, let’s take a look at the updated odds.
Animal Kingdom: When oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog released the opening odds for the 2011 Belmont, Animal Kingdom was one of the three favorites. Now the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner stands alone as the favorite this weekend. Two weeks ago he was 4/1 to win but now those odds have improved to 5/2. Despite losing his bid to win the Triple Crown at this year’s Preakness, Animal Kingdom remains the class of the horseracing world this year.
Shackleford: The contender that spoiled Animal Kingdom’s bid for a Triple Crown at the Preakness is set to run at the Belmont after some initial concern. He opened at 4/1 to win the Belmont but is now listed at 9/2 behind Animal Kingdom and Nehro. It’s a little surprising that the 2011 Preakness winner isn’t receiving more love this weekend but maybe his odds will change closer to race time. After all, his ability to hold off Animal Kingdom down the stretch at Pimlico was impressive to say the least.
Nehro: Nehro finished second at Churchill Downs in early May and now that he’s well rested after being held out of the Preakness, observers like his chances for success at the Belmont. He opened at 4/1 to win at Elmont Park and is now 3/1 to win. It’s worth noting that he also was one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby, so there’s no question that this horse as the talent to succeed.
Other contenders to keep an eye on are Mucho Macho Man (8/1), who finished third at the Kentucky Derby but flopped at the Preakness, Master of Hounds (7/1) and Brilliant Speed (16/1), who finished seventh at the Kentucky Derby. For a complete list of odds for the 2011 Belmont, see below.
