Mr. Hot Stuff Update
After struggling at the Kentucky Derby early last month, can Mr. Hot Stuff rebound and have a good showing at the 2009 Belmont Stakes? Oddsmakers considered him a long shot.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Mr. Hot Stuff an 18/1 long shot to win this year’s Belmont. Flying Private also has 18/1 odds, while Brave Victory (20/1), Miner’s Escape (20/1) and Luv Gov (25/1) are considered the long shots.
In five starts at age 3, Mr. Hot Stuff has one win and three third place showings. In his last three races, he finished 15th at the 2009 Kentucky Derby, third at the Santa Anita Derby on February 4 and third at the Sham S. (a Grade III race) on February 28.
One thing in Mr. Hot Stuff’s corner is that he’s well rested. He hasn’t run in over a month and while there might be some rust to shake off, he’s got fresh legs and that will benefit him on Saturday. (Especially when you consider that favorite Mine That Bird has already competed in the first two legs of horse racing’s Triple Crown.)
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
