Mine That Bird Update
After turning heads in each of the previous legs of horse racing’s Triple Crown, Mine That Bird is a clear favorite to win the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Mine That Bird the favorite to win the 2009 Belmont at 4/3 odds. Charitable Man (3/1), Dunkirk (3/1) and Summer Bird (10/1) are considered by oddsmakers to give Mine That Bird his stiffest competition.
Entering the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Mine That Bird was a massive 50/1 long shot. But on a sloppy track, he won at Churchill Downs and turned the horse racing world on its head (at least for this season, that is).
Then, entering the 2009 Preakness, Mine That Bird took second place to 3-year old filly Rachel Alexandra, who was the favorite heading into the race at Pimlico.
In four starts this season, Mine That Bird has one win and two second place finishes. In his last three outings, he finished second at the Preakness, first at the Kentucky Derby and fourth at the Sunland Derby. He’ll take the 7th post position at the Belmont.
Perhaps the only thing that could slow down favorite Mine That Bird is fatigue. He’s had a rigorous training schedule to this point and could be wearing down. Then again, he looks to be the strongest horse entering Saturday’s action and he’ll be ridden by jockey Calvin Borel, who is going for his own version of the Triple Crown after riding the winning horse at the Kentucky Derby (Mine That Bird) and Preakness (Rachel Alexandra).
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
