Luv Gov Updated Odds
If you like long shots in horse racing, then look no further than Luv Gov in the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes, which takes place today in Elmont, New York.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made contender Luv Gov a long shot to win this year’s Belmont at 25/1 odds to win. He’s the thoroughbred with the longest odds to win the Belmont and he’s not expected to challenge favorite Mine That Bird (according to oddsmakers at least).
Luv Gov is 1-for-11 lifetime and finished eighth at the 2009 Preakness, which was easily his toughest race of the season. His strengths don’t rely in his kick, but at times he can display the ability to sustain drives and therefore could do well at the Belmont if the track isn’t fast come race time.
One thing to keep in mind about long shots this season is that Mine That Bird had 50/1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby this year and he came out victorious. Granted, favorite Rachel Alexandra won the second leg of the Triple Crown, the 2009 Preakness, but Mine That Bird’s victory at the Kentucky Derby definitely made bettors more intrigued about long shots.
Therefore, don’t write Luv Gov off entirely come race time. He could surprise, especially if the weather is poor.
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
