Coming out of the second post position today is contender Dunkirk, who is expected to be one of the thoroughbreds to give favorite Mine That Bird a run for his money at the Belmont.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Dunkirk a midrange favorite at 5/1 odds. He joins Mine That Bird (4/3), Charitable Man (3/1) and Summer Bird (10/1) as the favorites at the 2009 Belmont.
In four starts as a 3-year old colt, Dunkirk has two wins and a second place showing. In his last three starts, he finished 11th at the Kentucky Derby on May 2, second at the Florida Derby on March 28 and won the Allowance on February 19.
When the odds opened for the 141st running of the Belmont, Dunkirk was listed at 9/2 just behind Mine That Bird, who was 5/6. But since then, Dunkirk’s odds have fallen a bit and now he’s third behind Mine That Bird and Charitable Man. Even though the drop in odds are a bit of a concern, if you liked Charitable Man at 9/2, you’ll love his value at 5/1.
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
