Flying Private Update
One of the potential sleepers entering the 2009 Belmont Stakes could be Flying Private, who had a solid showing at the Preakness a few weeks ago.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Flying Private a 18/1 long shot to win the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes. He joins Mr. Hot Stuff as the only two horses with those odds, while Luv Gov (25/1), Brave Victory (20/1) and Miner’s Escape (20/1) have the longest odds to win on Saturday.
As a 3-year old, Flying Private has one win and three third place finishes in five starts. In his last three starts, he finished fourth at the Preakness Stakes on May 16, 19th at the Kentucky Derby on May 2 and fifth at the Arkansas Derby on February 11.
Flying Private has great value at 18/1 odds. He’s already competed in two major races and after his lousy finish in the Kentucky Derby, he showed potential at the Preakness. As long as he isn’t fatigued after a rigorous past couple of months, he could be a potential sleeper to upset favorite Mine That Bird (4/3).
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
