Belmont Stakes Post Positions
ELMONT PARK, NY (The Spread) – The post positions for the 2014 Belmont Stakes have been drawn and Triple Crown contender California Chrome has drawn the No. 2 gate.
Medal Count will start on the rail for Saturday’s race, while Matterhorn will start out of the No. 3 post and Commanding Curve will start in the No. 4 gate. Ride On Curlin drew the No. 5 post, Matuszak drew No. 6 and Samraat drew No. 7. Commissioner (No. 8), Wicked Strong (No. 9), General A Rod (No. 10) and Tonalist (No. 11) round out the rest of the post positions for this year’s Belmont Stakes.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, California Chrome remains the favorite to win the Belmont at 10/11 odds. The contender with the next best odds is Ride On Curlin at 13/2, while Tonalist is 7/1 and Wicked Strong is 8/1. Commanding Curve is also a respectable 9/1, while Medal Count is 20/1 and General A Rod is 25/1. Samraat, meanwhile, is 28/1.
The long shots include Commissioner at 33/1 and Matterhorn at 40/1. Matuszak has the worst odds in the field at 50/1.
California Chrome has won six consecutive races including the first two legs of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. His other victories in the King Glorious Stakes, the California Cup Derby, the San Felipe Stakes and the Santa Anita Derby, which was his warmup for the Kentucky Derby.
Ride On Curlin, meanwhile, finished second behind California Chrome in the Preakness while Commanding Curve placed second in the Kentucky Derby. They figure to give California Chrome his biggest challenge in winning the Triple Crown.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday, June 7 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
