California Chrome Belmont Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – Heading into the 2014 Belmont Stakes, California Chrome remains the overwhelming favorite to win on Saturday.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, California Chrome is currently an 11/10 favorite to win this weekend’s Belmont Stakes. Ride On Curlin is also 11/2 to win, and remains the biggest threat to California Chrome after finishing second in the Preakness. Commanding Curve, meanwhile, is 15/2 to win the Belmont after finishing second in the Kentucky Derby.
California Chrome has won six consecutive races dating back to December 22, 2013. That’s when he won the King Glorious Stakes, followed by the California Cup Derby, the San Felipe Stakes, the Santa Anita Derby and then the first two legs of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. He’ll aim to become the first horse since Affirmed to win the Triple Crown in 1978 when he races in the Belmont this Saturday.
The odds that California Chrome will win the Triple Crown are the same as his odds to win the Belmont at 11/2. You can also bet on California Chrome to finish anywhere BUT first at 2/3, meaning that you’ll win $2.00 for every $3.00 that you wager on him not to win the Triple Crown.
The New York Racing Association stewards, after consultation with New York State Gaming Commission equine medical director Scott Palmer, also unanimously approved the use of equine nasal strips at all NYRA racetracks. That means that California Chrome can race with his nasal strips in the Belmont.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes is set for 6:30PM ET this Saturday from Elmont, New York.
