Flying Private Odds
One of the potential sleepers in this year’s running of the Belmont Stakes is Flying Private, who has already faced top competition at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Flying Private a mid-range long shot to win the 141st running of the Belmont at 18/1. He’s expected to get his stiffest competition from favorite Mine That Bird (5/6), Dunkirk (7/2), Charitable Man (3/1), and Chocolate Candy (13/1).
Even though he finished a disappointing 19th at the 2009 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 2, Flying Private improved at the Preakness Stakes, finishing fourth at Pimlico.
Before running the first two legs of the Triple Crown, Flying Private ran in six races to kick off his 2009 season. He started the year placing second at the Allowance Opitonal Claiming on January 31 and then finished fourth at the Allowance Opitonal Claiming on February 14.
Following those two races, Flying Private placed second at the Mountain Valley S. on February 28, second at the Lane’s End S. on March 21 and fifth at the Arkansas Derby on April 11.
Something to like about Flying Private’s chances for a good showing at Belmont Park this weekend is that he’s already had a ton of experience this season, but is he worn out? Only time will tell.
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday, June 6 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. For more information on this year’s race, check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide.
