Chocolate Candy Odds
One of the more intriguing horses set to run in the 2009 Belmont Stakes is Chocolate Candy, who should be well rested after not competing since the Kentucky Derby.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Chocolate Candy a mid-range 13/1 long shot to win the 141st running of the Belmont. He’s expected to get his stiffest competition from favorite Mine That Bird (5/6), as well as Dunkirk (7/2) and Charitable Man (3/1).
What makes Chocolate Candy an intriguing horse for bettors heading into the Belmont is that he has had a stellar run so far in 2009. He finished first at the California Derby on January 17 and then backed up that performance with another victory at the El Camino Real Derby on February 14.
Two months later, Chocolate Candy placed second at the Santa Anita Derby on April 4 and then in his toughest challenge of the year, finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 2.
His fifth place showing at the Kentucky Derby proved that he could hang with top competition and he could be a great value pick for this year’s Belmont. If he doesn’t win, bettors might be able to get decent odds in individual betting matchups against other thoroughbreds.
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday, June 6 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. For more information on this year’s race, check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide.
