Lakers Favored in Finals
The Los Angeles Lakers may have a poor championship history against the Boston Celtics, but oddsmakers are high on their chances again. Here’s the NBA Finals preview from BroburySports.com.
The series begins Thursday night in Socal and L.A. is a 5 ½-point favorite with a total of 192-points. They’re also a -180 series favorite, with Boston an enticing +150.
These teams met two years ago in the Finals with Boston winning in six games as an underdog. The Celtics also went 6-0 ATS.
Boston had the home court advantage in the 2-3-2 format. This year, it’s the other way around. Teams with home court advantage have gone 19-6 since 1985.
The big difference with Boston this year is the ‘Big 3’ of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are a couple of years older. However, so is Rajon Rondo and that’s a good thing. Rondo has developed into a top-5 NBA point guard and is arguably their best player.
Pierce would disagree with that after averaging 24.3 PPG against Orlando last series. He likes to market himself as a big-game performer on par with Kobe Bryant. Pierce was the MVP in the 2008 Finals.
Boston has been off since Friday after dispatching Orlando in six games. They’ve gotten a good amount of rest for this series, very important for their age.
Bryant has been remarkable in the playoffs. That’s especially true the last two rounds against Utah and Phoenix, averaging 33 PPG and shooting over 52 percent from the field.
The Boston defense will be much more physical than what he’s seen in the playoffs, so he can’t try to do it all himself.
The L.A. big man tandem of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum must match the Celtics’ intensity and not just rely on Bryant to pull out games in the fourth quarter.
Bryant is the heavy favorite to win the series MVP at -250. Rondo comes in at Even odds, with Pierce (+500), Allen (+2000) and Garnett (+2500) following behind. The closest Lakers is Gasol at +1500. That makes sense because the Lakers likely can’t win without an MVP-type performance from Bryant.
There will also be several other props like Exact Games and ones involving individual players like Bryant and Pierce. Check them all out on the odds menu now!
