According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bodog.com, Dixon, a former Indy 500 winner, has 7/2 odds to win this year’s race.
Dixon will start in Row 1 from the second position. 42 Indy 500 winners have started the race in Row 1 while 11 winners have started in the second position. The last to do so was Juan Pablo Montoya back in 2000.
Dixon has competed in the Indy 500 the last eight years. He won the 2008 race after starting on the pole. He has finished sixth or better in the last five Indy 500’s and he has finished outside the top 8 just twice in his career.
This year, Dixon has just one top 5 to his credit in four IRL races. He has finished outside the top 10 in the other three. His struggles have dropped him to eighth in the current point standings.
The Indianapolis 500 will take place Sunday, May 29 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at Noon ET. The race will air on ABC.
