Ed Carpenter Indy 500 Outlook
Ed Carpenter starts from the pole in Sunday’s Indianapolis 500. Will he find a way to go wire-to-wire and win the big race?
The Indianapolis 500 is a 500-mile race that will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race takes place today on Sunday at 11AM ET and will air live on ABC. According to oddsmakers, Ed Carpenter is listed with 12/1 odds to win Sunday’s race from the pole position. Alexander Rossi is the favorite with 8/1 odds while Helio Castroneves has 9/1 odds.
Back in the pole position
Carpenter has the pole position for Sunday’s race. This marks the third time he has won the pole for the Indianapolis 500. However, the previous times haven’t resulted in much. He finished 10th from the pole in 2013 and 27th from the pole in 2014. Out of 14 Indy 500 races, Carpenter has just one top-5 finish and three top-10 finishes.
Limited IndyCar action
Carpenter hasn’t been very active in the IndyCar series. He stopped being a full-time driver in 2014 and has just one win since that time. This year, he has competed in just one race, which was a seventh-place finish at Phoenix.
Indy 500 Outlook
The pole winner has went on to win this race 20 times, more than any other position. So, Carpenter has that going for him. However, that is about all he has to ride on. Despite a lot of experience there, Indy has not been his track. His previous pole positions haven’t led to much and I don’t see him doing much with this one either. This victory just doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
