The race was stopped with eight laps to go following a crash and Hunter-Reay began the restart in the lead. Helio Castroneves started in second and made the quick pass for the lead. The two exchanged the lead two more times before Hunter-Reay took over just before the final lap and held on for the win.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Hunter-Reay had 12/1 odds to win the Indy 500, which means a wager of $100 on him to win will pay out an additional $1,200.
Marco Andretti came in as one of the favorites along with Castroneves. He placed third on the day while Carlos Munoz was fourth and Juan Pablo Montoya was fifth. Kurt Busch had a solid showing, finishing sixth before leaving to compete in the Coca-Cola 600
