According to the oddsmakers, Briscoe has 7/1 odds to win this year’s race. He has competed in six Indianapolis 500’s in the past, with his best finish being fifth place in 2007. He also has a 10th place finish back in 2005. He has failed to crack the top 10 in his last four Indy 500 outings.
Briscoe has a history of starting well, as he has started in the top 4 in three of his six Indianapolis 500’s. He started second in 2009 and third in 2008. Briscoe won the pole in this year’s qualifying and will start first in Sunday’s race.
This year, Briscoe is eighth in the IRL point standings after four races. He has one top 5 and two top 10’s. He has not won an IRL race since 2010.
History could be on the side of Briscoe, as 20 Indy 500 winners have started in the pole position, more than any other starting position in the race’s history. The last pole winner came in 2009.
