Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com listed Mucho Macho Man at 6/1 to win this year’s Preakness when the opening odds were released shortly after the Kentucky Derby was run earlier this month. Mucho Macho Man’s odds haven’t wavered either, as he’s still listed at 6/1 as we draw closer to post time.
Mucho Macho Man has a ton of race experience under his belt. He placed second in his debut last July at Calder in a 6-furlong outing last year. He then took third in a 7-furlong outing at Saratoga the following month before capturing his first career victory at Monmouth on September 19 of last year.
In nine career races, Mucho Macho Man has only finished off the board once, which was at the Grade 3 Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park in his first outing this year. Since then, he won the Grade 2 Risen Star at Fair Grounds on February 19 and finished third in back-to-back outings at the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby and the Kentucky Derby.
Mucho Macho Man will start out of the No. 9 post position when the contenders break this evening, and will be ridden by jockey Rajiv Maragh. Maragh has never ridden in the Preakness and is just 25-years-old.
