(The Spread) – After finishing fourth at the Kentucky Derby, Shackleford looks to finish in the money this evening at the 2011 Preakness Stakes.

Oddsmakers from online sports book listed Shackleford at 8/1 to win the Preakness when the opening odds were released shortly after the Kentucky Derby. But now that the odds have been updated, he’s 12/1 to win at Pimlico Race Course.

In six career outings, Shackleford has two wins under his belt. He won a Maiden Special Weight back in November of last year and then returned in February of this year and posted a victory at an allowance. At the 2011 Kentucky Derby, he finished fourth at Churchill Downs, finishing just behind Mucho Macho Man down the stretch.

Shackleford is part of the ownership of Michael Lauffer and W.D. Cubbedge and is trained by Dale Romans. Jesus Castanon, the 37-year-old from Mexico City, who have the mount at the Preakness when Shackleford comes out of the No. 5 post position.
