Good Magic vs. Justify Preakness Pick
Is Justify a slam-dunk to win the 2018 Preakness Stakes? If you believe that, then he also should be a good play in his matchup prop bet against Good Magic. Here's our prediction for this head-to-head play.
According to oddsmakers, Justify is the odds-on favorite to beat Good Magic at 5/17. Good Magic, meanwhile, is the underdog in this prop bet at 23/10. These odds make sense when you figure Justify is a 4/13 favorite to win the second leg of the Triple Crown, although Good Magic has the next-best odds at 7/2.
Good Magic Profile
Good Magic finished as the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby and figures to give Justify his stiffest challenge again. In six starts, Good Magic has two wins, three seconds and one third-place showing. Among his notable achievements are wins in the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes and the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile. Chad Brown won the Preakness last year with his first starter in the race. This will also be jockey Jose Ortiz's second consecutive appearance in the classic.
According to oddsmakers, Kentucky Derby winner Justify is the odds-on favorite to win the Preakness Stakes at 4/13. In four starts, this Bob Baffert-trained horse is a perfect 4-0. Justify won the Kentucky Derby with an enthralling 2 1/2-length victory and now has his sights on becoming the 13th Triple Crown winner if he can notch the second jewel of the TC. It would not be shocking to see Justify win wire-to-wire this evening.
Preakness Stakes Matchup Prediction
You're not getting much value when you take Justify over Good Magic but the goal is to win regardless of the odds. I could see Quip setting the pace tonight but at some point, and it could be fairly early, Justify will take over and smoke the rest of the field. In fact, I could see him winning wire-to-wire and while Good Magic put up a decent fight in the Kentucky Derby, he seemed to tire down the stretch. I could see Good Magic fading down the stretch again as fatigue sets in.
Preakness Prediction: Justify 5/17 over Good Magic
