2012 Preakness Stakes Predictions

2012 preakness stakes predictions free picks bodemeister

BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – With the 2012 Preakness Stakes drawing near, it’s time to hand out our predictions for this year’s race at Pimlico Race Course.

At least from the outside looking in, this year’s Preakness field is incredibly weak. Thus, there won’t be a lot of value in our predictions below because we’ll be taking the chalk, but posting a victory is the only thing that matters.

WIN: BODEMEISTER 3/2

I had Bodemeister finishing second in the 2012 Kentucky Derby and I won’t shy away from him today just because he’s the favorite. He nearly won at Churchill Downs two weeks ago and before then he impressed at the Grade I Arkansas Derby by finishing first. In his five-race career, Bodemeister has never finished lower then second and I don’t envision that trend changing today when he goes up against a weak Preakness field.

PLACE: CREATIVE CAUSE 13/2

He finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby but when you look back at this horse’s race history, it’s hard not to be intrigued by his potential. First and foremost, Creative Cause has ran in eight consecutive graded races so he’s used to facing top competition. Secondly, he’s done quite well in those outings. He won the Grade II Best Pal Stakes in August of last year and placed second at the Grade I Del Mar Futurity on September 7. He also won the Grade I Norolk Stakes on October 1 of last year and placed third at the Grade I Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He finished third at the Grade II San Vicente Stakes on February 19 of this year, won the Grade II San Felipe Stakes on March 10, and finished second at the Grade I Santa Anita Derby on April 7 before finishing fifth at the Kentucky Derby. Creative Cause should finish somewhere in the money today.

SHOW: I’LL HAVE ANOTHER 3/1

I’ll Have Another isn’t getting much respect after winning the Kentucky Derby and I’m adding to that disrespect by predicting a third place finish out of him today. He’s won three consecutive races included the Grade II Robert B. Lewis Stakes on February 4, the Grade I Santa Anita Derby on April 7 and the Kentucky Derby. But I think Bodemeister will get his revenge today and I’ll Have Another will be gassed by the time he reaches the stretch, thus finishing third.
