2012 preakness stakes results payouts odds i'll have another

BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – The Triple Crown is now within I’ll Have Another’s sites after he won the 2012 Preakness Stakes on Saturday.

Similar to the finish of the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, I’ll Have Another pulled ahead of Bodemeister down the stretch to the Preakness Stakes. Bodemeister led the majority of the race at Pimlico but jockey Mario Gutierrez made all the right decisions to ride I’ll Have Another to a victory in the second leg of the Triple Crown. I’ll Have Another officially beat Bodemeister by a neck.

I’ll Have Another paid $8.40 on a $2 wager to win, $3.80 on a $2 wager to place and $2.80 on a $2 wager to show. Bodemeister paid $3.20 on a $2 wager to place and $2.80 on a $2 wager to show, while Creative Cause paid $3.60 on a $2 wager to show.

Here were the official results from today’s race: 1. I’ll Have Another; 2. Bodemeister; 3. Creative Cause; 4. Zetterholm; 5. Teeth of the Dog; 6. Optimizer; 7. Cozzetti; 8. Tiger Walk; 9. Daddy Nose Best; 10. Went The Day Well; 11. Pretension.

A $2.00 EXACTA on 9-7 paid $18.60 while a $1.00 TRIFECTA of 9-7-6 paid $35.40. A $1.00 SUPERFECTA of 9-7-6-4 paid $424.30. With Bodemeister and I’ll Have Another being the contenders with the two lowest odds, the payouts for this year’s Preakness were rather unimpressive.

Not since Affirmed accomplished the feat in 1978 has there been a thoroughbred that won the Triple Crown. In 2008, Big Brown nearly won the Triple Crown but placed ninth at the Belmont Stakes after winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Point Given (2001), War Emblem (2002), Funny Cide (2003), Smarty Jones (2004) and Afleet Alex (2005) also came up empty in the Belmont after winning the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
