(The Spread) – Fresh off his fourth place showing at the Kentucky Derby, contender Shackleford looks to get on the board this Saturday at the Preakness.

Odds: Shackleford opened with +800 odds to win the 2011 Preakness and now according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, he’s +1300 to win. His odds put him in the same company as Dance City (+1300), Astrology (+1500), Sway Away (+1600) and Midnight Interlude (+1800).
Race History: As previously noted, Shackleford finished just outside the money at the Kentucky Derby earlier this month, finishing fourth behind Animal Kingdom, Nehro and Mucho Macho Man. He placed second at the Grade 1 Florida Derby by Dialed In on April 3 and finished fifth at the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth behind Soldat.
Outlook: This horse clearly has the talent to take home a victory. He nearly went gate-to-wire in the Grade 1 Florida Derby despite 68/1 odds before Dialed In caught him by a head. He also ran up front at the Kentucky Derby but didn’t finish strong, leaving him just outside the money. He doesn’t appear to mind the dirt, as his victory at Churchill Downs last fall proves. Shackleford may be one of the sleepers to watch out for this weekend.
