(The Spread) – As we draw closer to the 2011 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 21, we continue our look at the contenders with a preview of Flashpoint.

Odds: When oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com released the opening odds for the 2011 Preakness two weeks ago, Flashpoint was +1000 on the money line to win. Now the 3-year-old colt is +2100 on the money line to win this weekend’s race.
Race History: Flashpoint only has three career races under his belt, but he’s won two of the three. He debuted at Aqueduct Racetrack on January 15 and won gate-to-wire. He came back on February 26 and won the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes before finishing fourth at the Grade 1 Florida Derby on April 3.
Outlook: It’s hard to know what to make of Flashpoint’s chances to win because he only has three races under his belt and his owners considered not running him in the Preakness. But this is a good-looking horse. He clearly can hang with graded competition and as long as he doesn’t get spooked by the pressure of racing in his first Triple Crown, there’s no reason to believe that Flashpoint can’t finish in the money.
