2015 Preakness Stakes Predictions
PIMLICO, BALTIMORE (The Spread) - Which contenders will finish first, second and third in Saturday's Preakness Stakes? Here are our picks.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, American Pharoah is favored at 10/13 while Firing Line is 17/4 and Dortmund is 9/2 to win at Pimlico. Divining Rod. meanwhile, is 22/1. Those are our picks for tonight, as we're choking on chalk in a weak field this year.
This horse wore himself out after setting the pace in the Kentucky Derby. With the Preakness Stakes being a shorter race, we like this big colt to have plenty in reserve and ruin American Pharoah's bid to win horse racing's Triple Crown. Look for Dortmund to rebound after a third-place showing at Churchill Downs.
PLACE: Firing Line
Firing Line has yet to finish outside of the money in six career races and we don't think the Preakness will be the exception. He just need a little more push down the stretch to pull off the upset in the Kentucky Derby and he should threaten the lead once again this evening. We wouldn't be surprised if Firing Line won.
SHOW: American Pharoah
The favorite doesn't offer much value for bettors but he'll need to be in your mix for your exactas and superfectas. He's too good not to finish somewhere in the money and even though we're not picking him to win, it won't be a surprise if American Pharoah racks up his second win this month.
FOURTH: Divining Rod
Call this our sleeper, although his owners raced Barbaro so we're sure Divining Rod will be in plenty of superfectas. Of the fresher horses coming into the field of eight, the Lexington Stakes winner has a shot to pull off the upset today.
