2015 preakness stakes payouts race results betting triple crown american pharoah

PIMLICO, BALTIMORE (The Spread) - American Pharoah won the second leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday when he claimed victory in the 2015 Preakness Stakes.

While he was challenged by heavy long shot Tale of Verve down the stretch, American Pharoah pulled out the win at Pimlico. With a victory in the Kentucky Derby as well, American Pharoah now has an opportunity to win horse racing's Triple Crown for the first time since Affirmed accomplished the feat in 1978.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, American Pharoah was the favorite to win the Preakness Stakes at 10/13 odds, so the payout for first wasn't as lavish had one of the long shots won. A $2.00 wager on American Pharoah to win produced a payout of $3.80, while a second place wager paid $3.40 and a wager to show paid out $2.89.

The money to be made on Saturday came on Tale of Verve, who was a 50/1 long shot the morning of the race. A $2.00 wager on Tale of Verve to place paid out $19.00 while a wager on show paid out $8.80. Divining Rod, who placed third, paid out $5.20.
