Preakness Stakes Betting Preview
PIMLICO, BALTIMORE (The Spread) - Here's a quick betting guide for the 2015 Preakness Stakes, which takes place today at 6:18PM ET.
GENERAL: Post time for today's Preakness Stakes is set for 6:18PM ET and the race will be run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The TV broadcast will be shown on NBC and Horse Racing Network will carry the event on radio.
BETTING ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, American Pharoah is a 10/13 favorite to win the Preakness, while Firing Line is 17/4 and Dortmund is 9/2. Danzig Moon, meanwhile, is 20/1 while Divining Rod is 22/1 and Mr. Z is 25/1. The two heavy long shots are Bodhisattva at 33/1 and Tale of Verve at 50/1.
WEATHER: The weather forecast for the Preakness Stakes appears to be mostly dry and wind won't be an issue at 10 to 15 mph. The one concern is that there could be an isolated storm or two that forms this afternoon, although things should be dry by 6:00PM ET. Still, weather could be unpredictable at times and if there's sloppy conditions you'll need to adjust your wagers accordingly. In 2009, Mine That Bird won as a 50/1 long shot at the Kentucky Derby, partly due to sloppy conditions at Churchill Downs. A muddy track can play havoc on a field.
TRIPLE CROWN ODDS: American Pharoah is coming off victory in the Kentucky Derby and as previously noted, is a 10/13 favorite to win tonight. His odds of winning the Triple Crown, however, are only 9/4.
