2012 preakness stakes post positions odds trends

BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – The post positions have been drawn for the 2012 Preakness Stakes and long shot Tiger Walk will start on the rail.

Tiger Walk will be followed by Teeth of the Dog in the No. 2 post position while Pretension will start out of the No. 3 gate. Zetterholm drew the No. 4 post, Went The Day Well will start out of the No. 5 post and Creative Cause will be in the No. 6 gate. Bodemeister will start in the No. 7 post position, Daddy Nose Best will start No. 8, I’ll Have Another drew the No. 9 post and Optimizer will come out of the No. 10 gate. Cozzetti drew the No. 11 post.

Updating the odds for the 2012 Preakness Stakes, Bodemeister is now the favorite to win at 2/1, while 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another is 5/2 and both Creative Cause and Went the Day Well are 6/1, respectively. Daddy Nose Best is 15/1 as is Teeth of the Dog, respectively.

Continuing with the odds, Tiger Walk is 20/1 while Cozzetti, Optimizer, Pretension and Zetterholm are all 25/1, respectively. When the odds were first released, Bodemeister and I’ll Have Another were both 3/1, while Creative Cause and Went The Day Well were 10/1 and Cozzetti was 20/1. Optimizer was 12/1, Pretension was 25/1, Teeth of the Dog was 20/1, Tiger Walk was 20/1 and Zetterholm was 20/1.

This will be the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes, which was inaugurated in 1873. It’s a 1 3/16 (9.5 furlongs) race and carries a purse of $1 million. The Gates at Pimlico Race Course will open at 8:00AM ET and the Preakness post time is set for 6:05PM ET.
