Optimizer Preakness Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – After running a disappointing 11th at the Kentucky Derby, 2012 Preakness Stakes contender Optimizer will look for a better showing this Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
According to oddsmakers Optimizer is 12/1 to win the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes. Bodemeister and 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another are co-favorites at 3/1 odds, while Creative Cause and Went The Day Well have the next best odds at 8/1. Meanwhile, Liaison is 15/1 while Cozzetti, Tiger Walk, Teeth of the Dog and Zetterholm are 20/1, respectively.
Optimizer is coming off back-to-back disappointing outings. As previously noted, he finished 11th at the Kentucky Derby and also placed ninth at the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 4. He did finish second at the Grade II Rebel at Oakland Park on March 17, but he struggled for a ninth place finish at the Grade II Risen Star at the Fair Grounds on February 25.
Optimizer’s career race record currently sits at 9-1-2-1 and he’s grossed $184,708. He’s the sire of English Channel and the dam of Indy Pick, and he is confirmed to run at this Saturday’s Preakness. He’ll be looking for his second career victory, with the first coming all the way back on October 6 at a MSW in Saratoga. (That was his first career race.)
This will be the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes, which was inaugurated in 1873. It’s a 1 3/16 (9.5 furlongs) race and carries a purse of $1 million. The Gates at Pimlico Race Course will open at 8:00AM ET and the Preakness post time is set for 6:05PM ET.
