Mine That Bird Updated
Can Mine That Bird get any respect? When oddsmakers set the opening odds for the 2009 Preakness, the Kentucky Derby winner was one of the favorites at 7/2. But as post time draws near, Mine That Bird is now 6/1.
Mine That Bird got a lot of attention when he won the Kentucky Derby despite being a 50/1 long shot heading into the race. So when the opening odds were released for the 2009 Preakness, the 3-year old colt was one of the favorites at 7/2.
But with the race only hours away now, Mine That Bird’s odds continue to drop as oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have made him a mid-range favorite at 6/1. Apparently oddsmakers aren’t buying into a possible repeat performance from the Kentucky Derby winner, instead placing better odds on Rachel Alexandra (8/5) and Pioneerof The Nile (5/1).
A lot of pundits believe that Mine That Bird’s victory at Churchill Downs in early May was due to the sloppy track conditions. Some believe that if the weather holds up, Mine That Bird will lose ground to faster horses like Rachael Alexandra and Pioneerof The Nile. Still, never count out a true underdog.
