Yawanna Twist Preview
Long shot Yawanna Twist is looking for a breakthrough performance when he takes on the field at the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday.
Reports are that Yawanna Twist handled the surface well during a recent job around the track. Some believe the colt is one of the more appealing long shots in the Preakness, seeing as how he has two wins and two seconds in four starts this since December of last year. He only has three races under his belt, but he’s finished in the money all three times.
Yawanna Twist is currently 25/1 to win on Saturday according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, after opening at 25/1 earlier in the week. Contenders with similar odds are Aikenite at 25/1 and Northern Giant at 28/1.
Yawanna Twist will come out of the No. 5 post position on Saturday, as he’s sandwiched between Northern Giant (No. 4) and Jackson Bend (No. 6).
Final Analysis & Outlook:
If his previous races are any indication of how he’ll fair on Saturday, then Yawanna Twist offers a ton of value at 25/1. He’s a horse that can stalk the pace and is coming off a sharp prep (Illinois Derby), although he hasn’t raced since finishing second at that outing. He’s coming of a six-week layoff, lacks a stakes win and has never run a triple digit Beyer. That said, there’s something to be said for a horse that consistently finishes in the money and at least on paper, he offers more value than Aikenite and Northern Giant – two fellow long shots.
