Paddy O'prado Preview
After finishing third at the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, Paddy O’prado is looking to build off that strong performance when he races at the Preakness Stakes 135 on Saturday.
Trainer Dale Romans noted that Paddy O’prado bounced around after the Kentucky Derby like he had never run that day. That’s a good sign considering the colt finished in the money. Although jockey Kent Desormeaux received criticism for the way he rode Paddy O’prado down the stretch, Romans is confident that his rider will make the right decisions in what the trainer calls a “strange race.”
Paddy O’prado opened as a 3/1 favorite behind Super Saver when the odds were released earlier in the week, but has since dropped to 6/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com.
Paddy O’prado drew a decent post position at No. 10.The No. 8, No. 9 No. 10, No. 11 and No. 12 post positions have won seven times in the last 12 years, which is a good sign for the colt’s chances on Saturday.
Final Analysis & Outlook:
With his third place finish at the Kentucky Derby, Paddy O’prado earned a sharp prep two weeks out, as well as a Beyer of 100. He’s a colt that can rally or stalk the pace, which is a good thing given the way the Preakness usually plays out. He doesn’t lack a stakes win as a juvenile, but that’s about the only knock on this 3-year-old. At 6-1, he offers a fair amount of value and look for Desormeaux to come out with something to prove after coming under fire for the way he ran Paddy O’prado down the stretch at the Derby.
