Schoolyard Dreams Odds
Intriguing contender Schoolyard Dreams is a long shot to win the 135th Preakness Stakes, but will he surprise?
Schoolyard Dreams needed to win the Tampa Bay Derby on March 13 to get into the Kentucky Derby, but he was beat by a nose by Odysseus in a memorable finish. He did beat out eventual Derby winner Super Saver by a half-length in that race, however. In the end, he didn’t make the Derby field due to lack of earnings, but Schoolyard Dreams will have his opportunity to turn heads at the 2010 Preakness.
Schoolyard Dreams opened with mid-range odds at 12/1, but has since dropped to 14/1 to win according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com. The change of odds may have to do with his post position draw of No. 2.
As previously noted, Schoolyard Dreams drew the No. 2 post position on Wednesday, which isn’t encouraging. In the last 12 years, the three inside post positions have failed to produce a winner.
Final Analysis & Outlook:
Along with a poor post position, Schoolyard Dreams is coming off a six-week layoff and a poor prep. He hasn’t won a stakes race in his career and has a best Beyer of just 94. He missed out on the Kentucky Derby and while he does have four starts this year and can stalk the pace, we don’t see the colt finishing in the money this week. That said, he has come close to the winner’s circle several times this year and maybe he’ll put it all together at Pimlico. Like we noted in the opening, there is something about this horse that’s intriguing.
