Jackson Bend Preview
After a disappointing showing at the Kentucky Derby, Jackson Bend looks to rally when he races in the 2010 Preakness Stakes, which takes place on Saturday at 6:15PM ET.
After running a dazzling four furlongs in 46.60 at Churchill Downs earlier in the week, Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito is looking to scale back Jackson Bend in order to save him for the Preakness. The colt ran a disappointing 12th at the Kentucky Derby after having trip issues earlier in the race, but Zito, who already has one Preakness win under his belt, thinks Jackson Bend will be a pace factor in the field of 12 on Saturday.
Jackson Bend found himself as a 20/1 long shot when the opening odds were released earlier this week. But his odds have since improved to 11/1 for Saturday’s race according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com.
Jackson Bend drew the No. 6 post position, right next to Lookin at Lucky, who was the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby.
Final Analysis & Outlook:
While he did race in the Kentucky Derby, he isn’t coming off a sharp prep after finishing 12th. He can stalk the pace and has made four starts this year, but lacks a stakes win. On the positive side, he does have four stakes wins at G2 and has run a triple digit Beyer Speed Figure. Jackson Bend certainly isn’t a horse that should be overlooked on Saturday, although we were convinced he would run better at the Kentucky Derby. Maybe he was just saving himself for Pimlico.
