Ring Weekend Preakness Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – The 2014 Preakness Stakes is less than a week away and with that, it’s time to look at contender Ring Weekend.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Ring Weekend is currently 20/1 to win the Preakness, which give him the same odds as Strong Mandate and General A Rod. California Chrome remains the favorite at 5/8, while Social Inclusion is 5/1 and Danza is 7/1.
Despite being a long shot, Ring Weekend has competed in every race he’s been in outside of his first career outing, when he finished fifth in a MSW back on August 31 of last year. Since then, he’s placed third, third, second, first, first and second in his last six starts. One of those vicotires came in the Grade II Tampa Bay Derby as he beat out Vinceremos and Surfing USA, among others.
Perhaps the most impressive outing came in the Calder Derby, even though he didn’t win. Ring Weekend placed second behind Our Caravan but the key is that it was a 1 1/8 mile race, which was the longest of his career. He’ll need to prove that he can race at 9.5 furlongs this weekend.
That said, he hasn’t faced stiff competition throughout his career. He’s only run in one Graded Stakes event, which came in the Tampa Bay Derby, and the first five races of his career were at MSWs. While his finishes have been good, he’s a bit of an enigma heading into Saturday because he simply hasn’t been challenged. Bet him at your own risk.
The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place this Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET (post time).
