Rua was reported to have a knee injury entering the fight, but it didn’t show as he came out aggressive from the opening bell. Rua threw relentless combinations at Machida and Machida responded with takedowns and knees, but Rua was able to land a clean shot on Machida while standing and minutes later, Rua managed to land on top of Machida during a fall and follow up with vicious ground strikes that knocked Machida out cold for his first MMA loss.
In the co-main event, Josh Koscheck picked up a unanimous decision win over Paul Daley. Koscheck dominated the fight with wrestling as he was able to land numerous takedowns while Daley never landed a clean punch. Koscheck had explosive power in his shots and once the fight got to the ground and ended up taking Daley’s back a couple of times while also getting in mount position numerous times to earn the decision.
