(The Spread) – As the 2011 Kentucky Derby draws closer, Nehro’s odds to win continue to drop.

When the odds were released earlier this week, Nehro was listed at +600 to win the Kentucky Derby. And when the post positions were drawn on Wednesday, his odds dropped to +400, making him one of the three favorites along with Dialed In and Uncle Mo.

But even though Uncle Mo was scratched from the Derby on Friday, Nehro’s odds actually got worse. He went from +400 to +700 and now oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com list him at +1000.

Why the sudden change throughout the week? One reason might be because casual Kentucky Derby bettors are staying away from him due to his post position draw on Wednesday. He’ll come out of the No. 19 gate on Saturday, which has never, in the history of the race, produced a winner at the Kentucky Derby. The only other post out of the 20 positions to have never won is the No. 17 gate.

But outside of his post position draw, it’s kind of hard not to like a horse that finished second in both the Arkansas and Louisiana Derbys. Nehro seems to be getting better with each outing and he does have the strength not to fade down the stretch (or come from the back if he starts off slow). This is definitely a horse to keep an eye on heading into the race on Saturday and at +700, he’s being offered at a nice price.
