Players Champ. Picks
The 2010 Players Championship will begin play on Thursday, and our team of writers and handicappers have three suggested picks for this weekend.
Tiger Woods 7/1
Coming off one of his worst performances in his professional career, Woods will want to bounce back this week. Also, with the possibility of Phil Mickelson taking over the top spot in the world rankings, Woods will know that this week is important. As a former winner with a proven history of competing in nearly all the events he is in, Woods could be a steal this week at 7/1, which is up from the usual 2/1 or 3/1.
Phil Mickelson 8/1
Like Woods, Mickelson has a lot to play for this week as he can unseat Woods as the top player in the world. Mickelson has been on a tear, winning the Masters a few weeks ago and then finishing second last week in the Quail Hollow Championship. Mickelson also won this event in 2007 and the way he is playing lately, it is reasonable to put your money on Lefty this weekend.
Lee Westwood 25/1
Westwood has been as solid as anyone in 2010, finishing no worse than 38th in his last eight events. He has five top 10’s during that stretch. Westwood has been making his way up the world rankings, now up to fourth in the standings. With this event filled with the best in the world, Westwood can make a big statement this week and his odds are enticing enough to give him a shot.
The 2010 Players Championship will be played at TPC at Sawgrass-Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida starting on Thursday, May 6 and concluding Sunday, May 9.
