The Favorite: Justify
According to oddsmakers, Justify is a 3/1 favorite to win the 2018 Kentucky Derby later tonight. In three career starts, Justify is a perfect 3-0. Making his first start on February 18 at Santa Antia Park, the son of Scat Daddy cruised by 9 1/2 lengths. He dominated again when he was stretched out from seven-eighths of a mile to a mile going two turns in his next start. He dominated again, this time by 6 1/2 lengths.
The Contender: Mendelssohn
The contender with the next-best odds is Mendelssohn, who is 5/1 to win at Churchill Downs later this evening. Mendelssohn has a ton of experience under his belt and is on a three-start win streak with victories at the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile, the Patton Stakes and the Grade 2 UAE Derby. In seven career starts, he has four wins, one second and zero thirds.
Also in the Mix: Magnum Moon
Magnum Moon is 6/1, right behind Mendelssohn as of Saturday afternoon. The Arkansas Derby winner is a perfect 4-0 in his career, which includes the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes. Along with Justify, this colt will attempt to put the "curse of Apollo" to the test this year since Curlin started in the 2007 Kentucky Derby. He broke his maiden at Gulfstream Park on January 13, won by 4 1/2 furlongs in a six-furlong race and has not been challenged yet.
Also in the mix are Audible and Bolt d'Oro , who are both 8/1, respectively.
The Long Shots
Vino Rosso and Good Magic are both 12/1, respectively, followed by Free Drop Billy, Promises Fulfilled, Flameaway, My Boy Jack, Enticed, Solomini and Noble Indy at 30/1, respectively. The contenders with the longest odds are Firenze Fire, Lone Sailor, Bravazo, Instilled Regard and Combatant, who are all 50/1, respectively.
