Union Rags vs. Bodemeister Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – Union Rags and Bodemeister are considered the two favorites to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby and now odds makers have pitted them against each other.
Oddsmakers have released head-to-head matchup props for the Kentucky Derby and list Union Rags as a -140 favorite over Bodemeister, who is +110. Thus, if you place a wager on Union Rags for this specific prop, all he has to do is finish ahead of Bodemeister. He doesn’t have to win the race.
Union Rags has never finished lower than third in his six career outings. He’s coming off a third place finish at the Grade I Florida Derby on March 31 but he won the race before that, which was the Grade II Fountain of Youth. He also placed second at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile back in November of last year, and won back-to-back races at the Grade II Saratoga Special on August 15 and the Grade I Champagne on October 8.
Bodemeister only has four career races under his belt but he’s never finished lower than second in any of them. He won the Grade I Arkansas Derby on March 14 and placed second at the Grade II San Felipe on March 10. Previous to those two outings, he finished second at a MSW on January 16 and first at a MSW on February 11.
In terms of odds to win the race, both Union Rags and Bodemeister are 13/10 favorites to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby, respectively. The race will take place today, Saturday 5, at Churchill Downs.
